How Sharps are Betting Friday and Early Saturday Football (9/27-9/28)
Friday’s Twin Bill Featuring Miami-Fla, Plus Select Saturday Starters
Should the Miami Hurricanes be on the short list of National Championship threats? Many thought they’d improved their talent base in the offseason. Still only September, but there’s no evidence yet that they DON’T belong in the discussion based on early season blowouts that blew past market expectations.
Miami (-2) won at Florida 41-17
Miami (-37) beat Ball State 62-0
Miami (-16.5) won at South Florida 50-15
(I left out the “contract” game with Florida A&M that was politely won 56-9.) Not exactly a litmus test Friday night at home against Virginia Tech. But, at least a chance for the nation to get a closer look in a national telecast. Let’s see how sharps have been betting that game, and other early treats on this week’s card…
Friday’s Games
Virginia Tech at Miami
Opening line of Miami -16.5 had climbed the ladder to a ceiling of -19.5 before it became clear that nasty weather could have an impact. Sharps definitely LOVED Miami at -17 or less, and still liked them at -18 and -19 before conditions soured. Dog lovers took +19.5, +19, +18.5, and +18. As I write this, the line has resettled at Miami -17.5, with a good chance for rain early in the game and winds in the 15-17 mph range. Tough to dominate for 60 full minutes in those conditions.
Opening total of 56.5 has been coming down through the week to a current 54. Everyone was watching the actual hurricane and wondering what effect it would have on the football Hurricanes. Could be a mess much of the night. And, preparation for both teams was definitely impacted in recent hours. Sharps like Under 55 or more, with a few probably still betting Under 54.5. The storm would have to clear out sooner than expected for any game-day rises on the point spread or total.
Miami was “the sharp side,” even at a high point spread before weather developments. Worth remembering in future weeks and better conditions. About 24 hours before kickoff, dog and Under have been sharp preferences.
