Philadelphia, Kansas City Advance to Super Bowl Rematch
Eagles Soar over Sinking Commanders, Chiefs Still Chess Masters
Two very different games Sunday in NFL Conference Championship action. Philadelphia scored touchdowns on an amazing 8 of 11 drives to run away and hide from mistake-prone Washington. Kansas City won (again) with position-position-position, advancing past Buffalo despite having the same number of touchdowns, field goals, and punts…and suffering one more turnover.
Let’s crunch the numbers…
(If you’re new to the site, “drive points” are those scored on drives of 60 yards or more, “clutch TD driving distance” is the combined yardage of drives scored on TDs ONLY when it was a one-score game, and “sloppiness” is a rudimentary snapshot of execution that’s 5 times the number of TOs…then add in incomplete passes. In sloppiness, lower is better because you want to avoid sloppiness.)
The game in 5 seconds…
Philadelphia (-6) beat Washington 55-23
Offensive TD/Drive Pct: Philadelphia 73% (7/11), Washington 17% (2/12)
Sloppiness: Philadelphia 8,Washington 39
The game in 30 seconds…
*Philadelphia (-6) beat Washington 55-23, winning yardage 459-350, yards-per-play 7.0 to 4.5, third downs 50-41%, rushing 229-99, drive points 20-8, clutch TD driving distance 180-56, red zone TD pct 100% (7/7) to 50% (1/2), and TOs 4-0. Washington also had a 4D failure.
Drives in Innings
WAS: 3-F-3-6-F-3----x-8-F-D-I-D (2/12)
PHI: 7-7-M-6-7----x-7-x-7-7-7 (8/11)
“F” stands for Fumble, “M” for Missed field goal attempt, “I” for Interception, “D” for a loss on Downs. Little x’s are punts. Only one of those all day for Washington, only two for Philadelphia.
